"Then David said, This is the house of Jehovah God, and this is the altar of burnt-offering for Israel." — 1 Chronicles 22:1 (ASV)
This is the house of the Lord God — The double miracle—that of the angelic appearance and that of the fire from heaven—had convinced David that here he had found the destined site of that “house” which he had been told his son should build (1 Chronicles 22:10). Hence, this public announcement.
"And David commanded to gather together the sojourners that were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to hew wrought stones to build the house of God." — 1 Chronicles 22:2 (ASV)
The strangers—that is, the aliens, the non-Israelite population of the land (compare to 2 Chronicles 2:17).
"And David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates, and for the couplings; and brass in abundance without weight;" — 1 Chronicles 22:3 (ASV)
For the joinings — that is, the girders or cramps; pieces of iron used to join beams or stones together.
"and cedar-trees without number: for the Sidonians and they of Tyre brought cedar-trees in abundance to David." — 1 Chronicles 22:4 (ASV)
See the marginal references and notes: 1 Chronicles 14:1.
"And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for Jehovah must be exceeding magnificent, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death." — 1 Chronicles 22:5 (ASV)
Young and tender - The exact age of Solomon at this time is uncertain, but it cannot have been more than 24 or 25. It may have been as little as 14 or 15. Compare the note on 1 Kings 2:2.
