Albert Barnes Commentary
"Then David gave to Solomon his son the pattern of the porch [of the temple], and of the houses thereof, and of the treasuries thereof, and of the upper rooms thereof, and of the inner chambers thereof, and of the place of the mercy-seat;" — 1 Chronicles 28:11 (ASV)
Compare 1 Chronicles 28:19. Just as God had revealed to Moses the pattern of the tabernacle (Exodus 26; Exodus 27), so He had made known by revelation to David the pattern of the temple and its furniture. This pattern, which consisted of a set of directions in writing, David now handed over to Solomon.
The houses – This refers to the "holy place" and the "holy of holies," which are called "the house" and the "inner house" in 1 Kings 6:17 and 1 Kings 6:27, and "the greater house" and "the most holy house" in 2 Chronicles 3:5 and 2 Chronicles 3:8.
The upper chambers – Compare to 2 Chronicles 3:9.
The inner parlors – These were the small rooms of the "lean-to" structure (see 1 Kings 6:5), which were entered one from another.
