SCRIPTURE

"And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, even the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, and brought them unto Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the river of Gozan, unto this day." — 1 Chronicles 5:26 (ASV)

“Habor” here seems to be a city or a district, not a river as a marginal reference suggests. There is some reason to believe that districts among the Assyrians were occasionally named after streams.

Hara is likely the same as “Haran” (Genesis 11:31; 2 Kings 19:12; Ezekiel 27:23), being a softening of the rugged original, “Kharan.”
