"lest any man should say that ye were baptized into my name." — 1 Corinthians 1:15 (ASV)

Lest any should say. Lest any of those who had been baptized should distort his purpose, and say that Paul had baptized them in his own name; or, lest any others should, with any semblance of truth, say that he had sought to make disciples for himself. The Ethiopic version translates this as, "That you should not say we were baptized in his name." Many ancient manuscripts read this as, "Lest any should say that you were baptized into my name."—Mill
