"And Jehovah raised up an adversary unto Solomon, Hadad the Edomite: he was of the king`s seed in Edom." — 1 Kings 11:14 (ASV)
The writer has reserved the various troubles of Solomon’s reign for this section, not allowing them to interrupt his previous narrative. Consequently, he has not followed chronological order. The opposition from Hadad and Rezon (1 Kings 11:23) belongs to the early years of Solomon’s reign.
Hadad was a royal title (perhaps the Syriac name for “the Sun”) in both Syria and Idumaea (1 Chronicles 1:51).
