"Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the men subject to taskwork; and all Israel stoned him to death with stones. And king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem." — 1 Kings 12:18 (ASV)
Adoram has been identified with Adoniram (as noted in marginal references) and even with the Adoram of 2 Samuel 20:24. However, it is highly improbable that the same person was the chief superintendent of forced labor during all of Solomon’s long reign, as well as during parts of the reigns of David and Rehoboam. We may therefore conclude that the three names refer to three distinct individuals, perhaps from the same family, who were each contemporary with one of the three kings.
Adoram was chosen to arrange some alleviation of their burdens, as he was best acquainted with the hardships about which the rebels complained.
