"And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream: and he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and offered up burnt-offerings, and offered peace-offerings, and made a feast to all his servants." — 1 Kings 3:15 (ASV)
Solomon determined to inaugurate his reign with a grand religious ceremony at each of the two holy places revered by the Jews at that time. After completing the religious service at Gibeon, where the tabernacle of the congregation was, he proceeded to Jerusalem and sacrificed before the ark of the covenant, which was on Mount Zion (2 Samuel 6:12).
A great feast naturally followed a large sacrifice of peace offerings. In these offerings, the one sacrificing always partook of the flesh of the victim and was commanded to invite the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow to the feast (Deuteronomy 14:29). (Compare 2 Samuel 6:19 and 1 Chronicles 16:3).
