"Ben-abinadab, in all the height of Dor (he had Taphath the daughter of Solomon to wife);" — 1 Kings 4:11 (ASV)

Dor - See the note on Joshua 11:2. It has always been a practice among Eastern rulers to bind their more important officers to themselves by giving them princesses of the royal house as wives. This explains the union here between Ben-Abinadab (probably Solomon’s first cousin; compare to 1 Samuel 16:8) and Taphath (compare to 1 Kings 4:15).
