Albert Barnes Commentary 1 Kings 5:17

"And the king commanded, and they hewed out great stones, costly stones, to lay the foundation of the house with wrought stone." — 1 Kings 5:17 (ASV)

Some of these “great, hewed stones” are probably still to be seen where they were set by Solomon’s builders, at the southwestern angle of the wall of the Haram area in modern Jerusalem. The largest found so far is 38 ft. 9 in. long and weighs about 100 tons.
