"And there were capitals above also upon the two pillars, close by the belly which was beside the network: and the pomegranates were two hundred, in rows round about upon the other capital." — 1 Kings 7:20 (ASV)
It is believed that a portion of the original text has also been lost from this verse due to the repetition of words. The complete original phrase has been preserved in 1 Kings 7:16–17. It can be restored as follows: “And the pomegranates were two hundred in rows round about upon the one capital, and two hundred in rows round about upon the other capital.”
The total of “four hundred” mentioned in 1 Kings 7:42 and 2 Chronicles 4:13 is obtained by counting the pomegranates of both pillars together. Furthermore, Jeremiah 52:23 provides an account of the arrangement for a single row, noting that each pillar had two such rows.
