"And he made the ten bases of brass; four cubits was the length of one base, and four cubits the breadth thereof, and three cubits the height of it." — 1 Kings 7:27 (ASV)
Ten bases of brass - These were for the ten lavers (1 Kings 7:38; see also 2 Chronicles 4:6). In general terms, the bases were square stands, 6 feet each way and 4 1/2 feet high, elaborately ornamented on their four sides and resting on four wheels, 2 1/4 feet in diameter. Each stand supported a laver 6 feet high, which contained 40 baths (1 Kings 7:38), or about 340 gallons.
