SCRIPTURE

"and all the store-cities that Solomon had, and the cities for his chariots, and the cities for his horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build for his pleasure in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion." — 1 Kings 9:19 (ASV)

The cities of store contained provisions stored up for the troops (Compare to 2 Chronicles 32:28). They seem to have been located primarily in the north—in Hamath (2 Chronicles 8:4) and Naphtali (2 Chronicles 16:4). For more on the cities for his chariots, see the note on 1 Kings 10:26.

The phrase that which Solomon desired to build seems to refer to pleasure houses in or near the capital and in the Lebanon range, built especially for the king’s enjoyment.
