SCRIPTURE

"And thou shalt behold the affliction of [my] habitation, in all the wealth which [God] shall give Israel; and there shall not be an old man in thy house for ever." — 1 Samuel 2:32 (ASV)

The original text is rather obscure and difficult to interpret, but the King James Version likely conveys its meaning. The margin provides an alternative reading.

In all the wealth ... - This alludes particularly to Solomon’s reign, when Zadok was made priest instead of Abiathar (1 Kings 2:26–27). (See 1 Kings 4:20 and following.) The enormous number of sacrifices offered then must have been a great source of wealth for the priests (1 Kings 8:63–66).
