SCRIPTURE

"And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of Jehovah. And Samuel feared to show Eli the vision." — 1 Samuel 3:15 (ASV)

Opened the doors - We learn from this incidentally the nature of some of Samuel’s duties. This duty was distinctly Levitical in character. In the interval between Joshua and David, when the tabernacle was stationary for the most part, it may have lost something of its “tent” character and, among other changes, had doors instead of a hanging curtain.

Samuel feared to show Eli the vision - Here was Samuel’s first experience of the prophet’s cross: having to divulge an unwelcome truth to those he loved, honored, and feared. Compare this to the case of Jeremiah (Jeremiah 15:10; Jeremiah 17:15–18; Jeremiah 20:7–18).
