Albert Barnes Commentary
"Thus all the work that Solomon wrought for the house of Jehovah was finished. And Solomon brought in the things that David his father had dedicated, even the silver, and the gold, and all the vessels, and put them in the treasuries of the house of God." — 2 Chronicles 5:1 (ASV)
This chapter contains only one important addition to the narrative in the book of Kings: the account of the circumstances under which the manifestation of the Divine Presence took place (2 Chronicles 5:11–13).
"And all the elders of Israel came: and the Levites took up the ark;" — 2 Chronicles 5:4 (ASV)
The Levites took up the ark — that is, those Levites who were also priests (compare 2 Chronicles 5:7; 1 Kings 8:3).
"And the staves were so long that the ends of the staves were seen from the ark before the oracle; but they were not seen without: and there it is unto this day." — 2 Chronicles 5:9 (ASV)
From the ark - Or, according to a different reading here and according to 1 Kings 8:8, some read, the ends of the poles were seen from the Holy place.
There it is to this day - This should be corrected as in the margin.
"it came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking Jehovah; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised Jehovah, [saying], For he is good; for his lovingkindness [endureth] for ever; that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of Jehovah," — 2 Chronicles 5:13 (ASV)
Even the house of the Lord - Or, according to another reading from the Septuagint, which removes the superfluousness of these words, The house was filled with a cloud of the glory of the Lord.
