Verse 1

"And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, wherein Solomon had built the house of Jehovah, and his own house," — 2 Chronicles 8:1 (ASV)

Compare the references to 1 Kings.

Verse 2

"that the cities which Huram had given to Solomon, Solomon built them, and caused the children of Israel to dwell there." — 2 Chronicles 8:2 (ASV)

The cities which Huram had restored to Solomon - These cities had not been mentioned previously by the writer of Chronicles, who, however, seems to assume his readers already know that Hiram had given them to Solomon. See 1 Kings 9:11–13.

Verse 3

"And Solomon went to Hamath-zobah, and prevailed against it." — 2 Chronicles 8:3 (ASV)

Hamath-zobah - Usually identified with the great Hamath (Amos 6:2), the capital of Coele-Syria; but it was probably a town of Zobah, otherwise unknown, which revolted from Solomon and was reduced to subjection.

Verse 5

"Also he built Beth-horon the upper, and Beth-horon the nether, fortified cities, with walls, gates, and bars;" — 2 Chronicles 8:5 (ASV)

Built - "Rebuilt," or "repaired" (as in 2 Chronicles 8:2). The two Beth-horons were both ancient cities (see the note on Joshua 10:10).

Verse 10

"And these were the chief officers of king Solomon, even two hundred and fifty, that bare rule over the people." — 2 Chronicles 8:10 (ASV)

Regarding the number, see the note on 1 Kings 5:16.
