"And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is Jehovah, the God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they were divided hither and thither; and Elisha went over." — 2 Kings 2:14 (ASV)
Where ... - Some prefer the reading: Where is the Lord God of Elijah, even he? And when he had smitten... Or, according to others: now when he... Elisha’s smiting of the waters seems to have been tentative, as he was not sure of its result. Hence the form of his invocation: Where is the Lord God of Elijah?—that is, “Is He here with me, or is He not?” Answered by the event, he appears to have never doubted again.
