Albert Barnes Commentary

Albert Barnes Commentary
"And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes (now he was passing by upon the wall); and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh." — 2 Kings 6:30 (ASV)
Sackcloth - Perhaps Jehoram hoped to avert Yahweh’s anger, as his father had done (1 Kings 21:29). But there was no spirit of self-humiliation or true penitence in his heart (2 Kings 5:7). See the next verse.
