Albert Barnes Commentary 2 Kings 8:14

"Then he departed from Elisha, and came to his master; who said to him, What said Elisha to thee? And he answered, He told me that thou wouldest surely recover." — 2 Kings 8:14 (ASV)

Hazael omitted the clause that explained how the words were to be understood. He thus deceived his master, while he could flatter himself that he had not uttered a lie.
