Albert Barnes Commentary 2 Samuel 5:11

"And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar-trees, and carpenters, and masons; and they built David a house." — 2 Samuel 5:11 (ASV)

Hiram, king of Tyre, is now mentioned for the first time. He outlived David and continued his friendship with Solomon. The news of the capture of the Jebusite city had undoubtedly reached Tyre, creating a great impression of David’s power.
