Albert Barnes Commentary Acts 23:27

"This man was seized by the Jews, and was about to be slain of them, when I came upon them with the soldiers and rescued him, having learned that he was a Roman." — Acts 23:27 (ASV)

Should have been killed of them. Was about to be killed by them. The life of Paul had been twice endangered in this manner (Acts 21:30; Acts 23:10).

With an army. With a band of soldiers (Acts 23:10).
