SCRIPTURE

"having hope toward God, which these also themselves look for, that there shall be a resurrection both of the just and unjust." — Acts 24:15 (ASV)

And have hope toward God. This refers to a hope of the resurrection of the dead, which arises from the promises of God.

Which they themselves, etc. This refers to the Pharisees. Perhaps in this remark he designated the Pharisees who were present; he held nothing on this great cardinal point which they did not also hold. For the reasons why Paul introduced this point so prominently, and the success of introducing it in this way, see Barnes on Acts 23:1, and also Acts 23:2-9.

Both the just and unjust. This means of the righteous and the wicked; that is, of all humanity. Since they held this, they could not charge him for holding it also.

The term "allow" means "admit." For "resurrection of the dead," refer to Daniel 12:2; John 5:28–29; 1 Corinthians 15:12–27.

See also Revelation 20:6, 13. The term "unjust" relates to the distinction between "righteous and unrighteous."
