SCRIPTURE

"And when they had been long without food, then Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have set sail from Crete, and have gotten this injury and loss." — Acts 27:21 (ASV)

But after long abstinence. Because of the violence of the storm, their prolonged labor, and their apprehension of danger, they had abstained from food for a long time.

And to have gained this harm. To have procured this harm, or have subjected yourselves to it. If you had remained there, you would have been safe. It seems to be bad English to speak of gaining a loss, but it is a correct translation of the original, kerdhsai, which expresses the idea of acquiring or procuring, whether good or evil. See Acts 27:9-10.
