"And fearing lest haply we should be cast ashore on rocky ground, they let go four anchors from the stern, and wished for the day." — Acts 27:29 (ASV)
They cast four anchors. They did this because of the violence of the storm and waves, to make the ship secure if possible.
And wished for the day. They did so to discern their situation and danger more accurately.
