Albert Barnes Commentary Exodus 18:23

"If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people also shall go to their place in peace." — Exodus 18:23 (ASV)

To their place - that is, to Canaan, which is thus recognized by Jethro as the appointed and true home of Israel. Compare Numbers 10:29-30.
