SCRIPTURE

"O Jerusalem, wash thy heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thine evil thoughts lodge within thee?" — Jeremiah 4:14 (ASV)

Your vain thoughts – “Your” iniquitous “thoughts.” “Aven,” the word used here, is especially applied to the sin of idolatry: thus Bethel is generally called Bethaven by Hosea (Hosea 4:15; Hosea 5:8, and other passages), because instead of being the house of God, El, it was the house of an iniquity, Aven, the golden calf.
