Albert Barnes Commentary
"all the inhabitants of the hill-country from Lebanon unto Misrephoth-maim, even all the Sidonians; them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only allot thou it unto Israel for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee." — Joshua 13:6 (ASV)
The King James Version would convey its meaning more clearly if the words from the beginning of Joshua 13:2 to the Sidonians in this verse were placed in a parenthesis, and if the biblical phrase before us, them will I drive out, were reordered to read: “I will drive them out.” The pronoun “them” in this suggested rendering refers to the inhabitants of the very much land to be possessed, spoken of in Joshua 13:1.
