Albert Barnes Commentary
"Far from the noise of archers, in the places of drawing water, There shall they rehearse the righteous acts of Jehovah, [Even] the righteous acts of his rule in Israel. Then the people of Jehovah went down to the gates." — Judges 5:11 (ASV)
The meaning of the King James Version is that, while previously they could not safely go to draw water from their wells because they were shot at by the enemy's archers, now they were delivered from such turmoil. Standing around the wells in security, they recounted the righteous acts of the Lord in delivering them, and “the righteous acts of His government in Israel” .
Then shall the people of the Lord go down to the gates—Israelites, who had hidden themselves in caves and deserts, could return in security to the gates of their own cities for justice, commerce, or to live there, now that the Canaanite was subdued.
