"the soul that toucheth any such shall be unclean until the even, and shall not eat of the holy things, unless he bathe his flesh in water." — Leviticus 22:6 (ASV)

The soul - Rather, the person. Compare the use of the word “body” in the Prayer Book version of Psalms 53:1, and in the compounds “somebody, nobody”.
