"He hath given help to Israel his servant, That he might remember mercy" — Luke 1:54 (ASV)
Hath holpen. Has helped or assisted. The word translated "holpen" properly denotes to take hold of someone, to help them up when they are in danger of falling; and here it means that God had assisted His people when they were feeble and in danger of falling or being overthrown.
His servant Israel. His people the Israelites, or those who truly feared Him and kept His commandments. See Isaiah 41:8-9; Hosea 11:1.
In remembrance of His mercy. Or that His mercy may be remembered.
