SCRIPTURE

"But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest place; that when he that hath bidden thee cometh, he may say to thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have glory in the presence of all that sit at meat with thee." — Luke 14:10 (ASV)

The lowest room. The lowest seat at the table, showing that you are not desirous of distinctions, or greedy for that honour which may properly belong to you.

Shalt have worship. The word worship here means honour. Those who are sitting with you will treat you with respect. They will learn your rank by your being invited nearer to the head of the table, and it will be better to learn it in this way than by putting yourself forward. They will do you honour because you have shown a humble spirit.
