SCRIPTURE

"And he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all the things that are written through the prophets shall be accomplished unto the Son of man. For he shall be delivered up unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and shamefully treated, and spit upon: and they shall scourge and kill him: and the third day he shall rise again." — Luke 18:31-33 (ASV)

By the prophets. Those who foretold the coming of the Messiah, and whose predictions are recorded in the Old Testament.

Son of man. The Messiah. They predicted that certain things would take place respecting the Messiah that was to come. See Barnes "Daniel 9:25, also Daniel 9:26-27"; See Barnes "Isaiah 53:1".

These things, Jesus said, would be accomplished in him, he being the Son of man, or the Messiah.
