"and he said unto them, Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer, and rise again from the dead the third day;" — Luke 24:46 (ASV)

It behoved: It became proper or necessary that the Messiah should suffer in this way. It was predicted of him, and all things have happened as it was foretold.

"To rise" (1 Peter 1:3).
