"and they that were troubled with unclean spirits were healed." — Luke 6:18 (ASV)

Vexed. In our common usage, the word vex means to provoke or irritate by petty provocations. In this context, however, it means to afflict or to torment—signifying deep and heavy trials.

Unclean spirits. Demons that were impure and unholy, taking delight in tormenting, and in inflicting painful and loathsome diseases.
