SCRIPTURE

"While he yet spake, they come from the ruler of the synagogue`s [house] saying, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Teacher any further? But Jesus, not heeding the word spoken, saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Fear not, only believe." — Mark 5:35-36 (ASV)

Why troublest thou, etc. It seems that the people did not yet have confidence that Jesus could raise the dead. He had not yet done it; and since the child was now dead, and since they supposed his power over her was at an end, they wished to trouble him no further. Jesus kindly set the fears of the ruler at rest and assured him that he had equal power over the dead as over the living, and could as easily raise those who had died as those who were dying.
