SCRIPTURE

"And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be delivered up into the hands of men;" — Matthew 17:22 (ASV)

abode in Galilee. Galilee is the northern part of Palestine. See Barnes on Matthew 2:22.

The Son of man shall be betrayed, etc. To betray means to deliver up in a treacherous manner. This was done by Judas Iscariot, who for that reason was called the traitor (Matthew 26:14–16, 47-50).

A traitor, or betrayer, is one who uses the confidence placed in him to deliver up the person who trusted him, putting that trusting person into the hands of enemies.

Luke 18:31; Luke 24:6, 26, 46.
