"But the king was wroth; and he sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned their city." — Matthew 22:7 (ASV)
But when the king heard, etc. This undoubtedly refers to the Jews, and to Jerusalem. They were murderers, having killed the prophets; and God was about to send out the armies of the Romans under his providential direction, and to burn up their city. See Barnes on Matthew 24:1 and following.
