"Do all things without murmurings and questionings:" — Philippians 2:14 (ASV)
Do all things without murmurings and disputings. This means in a quiet, peaceful, inoffensive manner. Let there be no quarrels, conflicts, or disputes.
The apostle's object here is, probably, to illustrate the sentiment he had expressed in Philippians 2:3-5, where he had taught the general duties of humility of mind and of esteeming others better than themselves. So that this spirit might be fully manifested, he now instructs them in the duty of doing everything in a quiet and gentle manner, and of avoiding any kind of conflict (Ephesians 4:32).
