"he that hath an evil eye hasteth after riches, And knoweth not that want shall come upon him." — Proverbs 28:22 (ASV)

The covetous temper leads not only to dishonesty, but to the “evil eye” of envy; and the temper of grudging, anxious care, leads him to poverty.
