"So when Jesus came, he found that he had been in the tomb four days already." — John 11:17 (ASV)
Found (ευρεν). Second aorist active indicative of ευρισκω.
That he had been in the tomb four days already (αυτον τεσσαρας ηδη ημερας εχοντα). Literally, "him (accusative object of ευρεν) having already four days in the tomb." See 5:5 for the same idiom (ετη εχων) for expression of time (having 38 years). In Jewish custom burial took place on the day of death (Acts 6:6,10).
