"But when he heard these things, he became exceeding sorrowful; for he was very rich." — Luke 18:23 (ASV)
Became (εγενηθη). First aorist passive indicative of γινομα. Like his countenance fell (στυγνασας), in Mr 10:22.
Exceedingly sorrowful (περιλυπος). Old adjective (περι, λυπη) with perfective use of περ.
Very rich (πλουσιος σφοδρα). Rich exceedingly. Today, a multimillionaire.
