"And because iniquity shall be multiplied, the love of the many shall wax cold." — Matthew 24:12 (ASV)
Shall wax cold (ψυγησετα). Second future passive indicative from ψυχω. To breathe cool by blowing, to grow cold, "spiritual energy blighted or chilled by a malign or poisonous wind" (Vincent).
The love of many (η αγαπη των πολλων). Love of the brotherhood gives way to mutual hatred and suspicion.
