"So David removed not the ark unto him into the city of David, but carried it aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite." — 1 Chronicles 13:13 (ASV)

Brought not ... home. —A different verb from that in 1 Chronicles 13:12. Literally, And David did not cause the ark to turn aside to himself. Slightly abridged. (See Samuel.)

Obed-edom the Gittite. —As, according to 1 Chronicles 26:1–4, Obed-edom was a Korahite Levite, the term “Gittite” is generally assumed to mean a native of Gath-rimmon, a Levitical town (Joshua 21:24) belonging to the great clan of Kohath, which was tasked with carrying the Ark, and of which Obed-edom was a member (Numbers 4:15).
