"And they left their gods there; and David gave commandment, and they were burned with fire." — 1 Chronicles 14:12 (ASV)
And when they had left their gods there. —Samuel states, their images. Our word is explanatory.
David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire. —Samuel states, And David and his men carried them off (Hebrew). The two statements are not incompatible and may both have existed in the same original text. The chronicler is careful to record David’s compliance with the law of Deuteronomy 7:25.
