Charles Ellicott Commentary 1 Chronicles 14:9

"Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim." — 1 Chronicles 14:9 (ASV)

And the Philistines came. — Now the Philistines had come. The narrative goes back to 1 Chronicles 14:8a. The invaders had approached by another road than usual, and encamped in the valley of Rephaim (1 Chronicles 11:15).

Spread themselves. — The chronicler has given an easier term than that used in Samuel.
