"For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, Jehovah, becamest their God." — 1 Chronicles 17:22 (ASV)

For Your people Israel ... —Literally, And You gave (Samuel, confirmed it) Your people Israel to Yourself for a people. Our reading is probably a result of partial obliteration.

And You, Lord ... —Literally, and You, Jehovah, became to them for a God. (Genesis 28:21; Exodus 6:3; Exodus 6:7.)
