Charles Ellicott Commentary

Charles Ellicott Commentary
"And let thy name be established and magnified for ever, saying, Jehovah of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and the house of David thy servant is established before thee." — 1 Chronicles 17:24 (ASV)
Let it indeed be established. —“Indeed, let it be assured.” This repetition is missing in Samuel.
The Lord of hosts is the God of Israel ... —“Jehovah Sabaoth, God of Israel, is God to Israel.” The phrase “God of Israel” is not found here in Samuel, but in the next verse.
And let the house of David ... be established. —The phrase “Let be” is missing in the Hebrew, and the sentence might be understood as part of what people will say in the future in praise of God: “The house of David your servant is established before you.” Samuel, however, inserts the verb “let it become,” or “shall become.”
