Charles Ellicott Commentary
"These also did king David dedicate unto Jehovah, with the silver and the gold that he carried away from all the nations; from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek." — 1 Chronicles 18:11 (ASV)
He brought. — Samuel states, dedicated. Chronicles avoids this redundancy.
These nations. — The nations — that is, whom he had reduced (Samuel).
From Edom. — Samuel states, from Aram, but the Septuagint, Syriac, and Arabic versions read Edom; (the Targum and Vulgate read Aram). All these versions read Edom here, which appears correct. Edom and Moab were bordering each other, and the reference includes all the nations whom David conquered and plundered.
And from Amalek may refer to 1 Samuel 30:16 and following, but more probably to an unrecorded campaign. Samuel adds, and from the spoil of Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah, which Chronicles omits, as it is already implied in 1 Chronicles 18:7–8.
