"And from Tibhath and from Cun, cities of Hadarezer, David took very much brass, wherewith Solomon made the brazen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass." — 1 Chronicles 18:8 (ASV)

Tibhath, and ... Chun. — These are two unknown places. The names in Samuel are Betah and Berothai. Tebah occurs as an Aramean name in Genesis 22:24, of which “Tibhath” is the feminine form, and “Betah” is probably a corruption. The Syriac has “Tĕbah” and “Bĕrûthi” in both places. Similarly, the Arabic of Samuel has “Tâbâh” and “Barûti” (here “Himsa” and “Baalbec,” probably as an explanation). The readings of the Septuagint—“Metebak” (or Masbach) in Samuel, and “Matebeth” here—support Tebah. The Vulgate in Samuel has “Bete,” but here it has “Thebath,” which is obviously equivalent to Tibhath. “Chun” is undoubtedly corrupt. All the versions support “Berothai” (Septuagint, “chosen cities; ” compare to the Hebrew, bârôth) except for the Arabic and Vulgate here.

Much brass.Copper , or bronze (an alloy of copper and tin, which was well known to the ancients). Samuel has copper in abundance (harbçh), an older form of expression.

Wherewith Solomon made... — This is not in the Hebrew of Samuel, though the Septuagint adds it.
