Charles Ellicott Commentary 1 Chronicles 23:8

"The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, and Zetham, and Joel, three." — 1 Chronicles 23:8 (ASV)

The sons of Laadan. —These are named in two groups: namely, first, the three mentioned in this verse; secondly, the three named in 1 Chronicles 23:9, and called "sons of Shimei." This Shimei is not the same as the Shimei of 1 Chronicles 23:7, whose sub-divisions are not given until 1 Chronicles 23:10.
